I had my Green Card interview a year ago, three years after filing my Adjustment of Status through family member. Since then, I haven’t received a decision. USCIS says my case is under active review with no outstanding requests. My expedite request was met with a standard response about backlog delays. The estimated processing time fluctuates unpredictably from 6 to 14 months.  Should I consider a lawyer? Would they be able to do anything beyond what I’ve already tried? I appreciate your guidance. I am in Michigan Detroit office.

They can sue

There are no red flags in my case. I’m sponsored by my U.S. citizen son. Can I file the mandamus myself, or should I contact congressional correspondence? Should I hire a lawyer, or can I handle it on my own to save money?  It says online "My case is delayed due to office backlog, with nothing outstanding on my end."

Is your visa category current? If it was sponsorship by sibling for example, we're talking about decadea of waiting.

I am currently inside the US, I have work permit but not travel documet or green card yet. I am stranded. I can't travel anywhere. I’m sponsored by my U.S. citizen son. It says online that My case is delayed due to office backlog, with nothing outstanding on my end. Not really sure what is going on. Lawyers are a bit expensive. Should I move and transfer my case to a different office in a different state?

That is very odd. You can file the WoM yourself, there is a good guide on the forum somewhere so have a hunt for that.

Best of luck.

Are you the father or mother?  Were there any RFE's along the way?  Do you have a common name that could slow down background checks?  Have you contacted your local representative, or US Senator from Michigan?  Just some of the questions I would be asking myself before taking the WoM route.

Good Luck!

Is there any reason you didn't file for Advanced Parole for travel purposes back when you filed to adjust?
