Dear Readers,

My parents have filled out the petition for category F3

They filed in some month in 2012 and got approved in SEP 2013 see below:

=======================================================

Case Was Approved

On September 23, 2013, we approved your Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, receipt number EACXXXXXXXXXX. We sent you an approval notice. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your approval notice by October 8, 2013, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

=======================================================

Since then, I have been waiting and keeping an eye on the visa bulletin and looking for the date that falls into my approval date, which is 2013.

I only have my receipt number starting from EAC.

I live in the UK, and my parents, who are in their 80s, live in the USA. I suppose I still have to wait for some sort of communication from USCIS?

Is there anything else I should be doing?

I am not sure what to do. some of my friends in India who got accepted in 2014 received some letters on their address and were asked to pay the visa fees, etc.

Please advise

Many Thanks

Your approval date isn’t relevant, only your Priority Date is. So what date in 2012 exactly? Where were you born?

Did both parents file for you or just one?

Then you’re not current yet. You can’t submit docs, pay fees, etc, until your PD is current on Table B (so it would need to be earlier than 22 July 2012). And no visa available until your PD is available on Table A. Another few years to go.

So your father didn’t as well? Sorry, I know it’s a horrible thought, but just asking as if your parents are in their 80’s then I was wondering if you had a back up petition in case something happens to your mother.

Also, who is ‘us’??

Sounds like you intend to retire to the US, presumably you have investigated the issues.

Hi There,

I appreciate your time and advise.

So you are saying another few years to go...

Table B says 22 July 2012, and we got approved in Sep 2013. I assumed minimum 2 years, right?  I hope that it is less than 2 years, as my parents wish I was there with them.

When I say "us", that means me and my sister, who also lives here in the UK and was born in India.

Anyway, if you can help me, I have moved to a different address now than the address on my file. What do you advise? Call the US Embassy in the UK or request it online.

All I have is my receipt number, and that is all I have. last thing i want do is miss a communication from them after 15 years.

Please advise

Thanks

Again, your approval date isn’t relevant. Only your Priority Date (i.e. the date you applied) is. So Table B is just for submitting your docs etc, there won’t be a visa available until it’s current on Table A. So that’s currently 1st July 2010, 2.5 years before your Priority Date.

But it’s not linear, so you can’t assume it will be another 2.5 years until your Priority Date is current. If you go back and look at previous Visa Bulletins, you’ll see that it usually moves much more slowly. For example, if you go back 5 years and look at March 2020’s Visa Bulletin, you’ll see that the date on that was December 2007, so in 5 years it’s only progressed by 2.5 years. That’s why I said my guess would be another few years.

The embassy in the UK doesn’t have anything to do with it yet, not until your case is being sent for interview. But no need to update anything now, when you do fill in the DS-260 you’ll update the address then. Everything is sent via email, not post.

And I think @Boiler is referring to healthcare costs for retirees.

Best of luck.
