Hi everyone,

I am a green card holder and I came to USA on IR1 visa. I heard that I can apply for citizenship after 3 years. I want to know the process and documents required to apply for citizenship.

Yes, the process is to file N-400 form and provide bonafide marriage evidence:

1) Joint tax return transcripts for 3 years

2) Evidence of financial comingling (joint bank account statements, joint assets)

3) Evidence of living together for the past 3 years (joint lease, or joint mortgage)

4) Other proof of marriage

5) Current marriage certificate

6) If you or spouse were divorced before, provide divorce certificates

You can file N-400 after being resident for 3 years and married to US citizen for 3 years (if you lived together all 3 years) and if you didn't have any trips over 6 months in the last three years and spent more than 18 months in the US in the last 3 years.

Thanks a lot for the information. I have 2 more questions : 1) If I want to visit my parents in India for 2-3 weeks before filing my citizenship, is that okay? Immigration athorities will allow me to enter back in US or not?
2) I need to file N400 exactly after completion of 3 years or I can start the process 1-2 months sooner also?

1) Should be fine

2) Up to 90 days before your 3 year anniversary, but you must be resident in the district you’re applying in for the 3 months before. https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-early-filing-calculator Your timeline says you entered the US on your immigrant visa in December 2023, is that right? If so, you could apply for naturalization around September 2026, another 18 months to go.
