We have our i-485 interview scheduled. A few questions for the group:

1. How important are things like joint assets (bank accounts, etc)? Our assets are all separate. We were thinking of just bringing photos of our relationship as proof of bona fide relationship.
2. How likely is it that we get approved on the spot, versus having to wait? Our wait estimate is 8 months but it would be amazing to get approved on the spot in a month and a half!

Thanks!

Joint assets and comingled finances are extremely important, as well as joint residence (both names on lease, house deed or mortgage statements).

Only photos is very weak evidence. You need to have other things.

I like your optimism, but given situation, photos as evidence, you can expect longer adjudication and potentially RFEs and stokes interview (look it up)

Estimates on MyProgress or any trackers are not to be trusted, they're always inaccurate.

You never know, but if your wife has been requested to go for an interview, that’s not likely.

You’ll need much stronger evidence than just photos.

The baby will definitely help. But what else can you provide, it doesn’t have to be bank accounts - things like wills naming each other as beneficiaries, life insurance (ditto), both names on utility bills, and as @OldUser said, the obvious one is medical insurance with her as your spouse.

Lots more than finances to consider.  You had a newborn, does she have insurance under the same plan as you?  Any kind of regular mail that comes to the same address as you? Was she added to the lease?  Did she get a driver's license with your address on it?

These are all useful in terms of validating a marriage, over pics.

Thank you for creating your timeline!  It helps those of us awaiting our interview/approval a great deal.

Yeah same insurance. Not added to lease I own my home outright. Cannot get driver's license here in puerto rico without social security.

Looks like I will use medical insurance, joint credit card, and other insurance (umbrella, home) etc as proof.

I'll start saving some of the mail that comes to her.
