My niece is scheduled an interview for  B-2 visa next month to attend my son graduation in U.S June, 2025. She is a full-time university student while she work part-time. She lives with her parents and doesn't have a bank account. I will purchase the tickets and sponsor the trip 100%. Would this cause her visa denied by not having a bank account or assets? What documents is needed for her interview?

She will need a passport

I suspect she is single,

Owns no property and as u said is a student living with parents

being a student is not a good tie to home country

and then there is the new ban to perhaps affect her as Liberia is in the 3rd "yellow" category so if she was lucky enough to get the visa ,  she may not be able to board the plane or could be returned home by CBP at the POE

  • Countries listed in the “YELLOW” category would be given 60 days to address concerns from the administration or risk being moved to the other categories: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Belarus, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Pakistan, Republic of the Congo, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, East Timor, Turkmenistan, and Vanuatu.

Yes I read about this, but as per Liberian foreign affairs minister Sara Beysolow, she said "The Liberian government had proactively reached out to the U.S officers to clarify the matter."  I'm hoping they provides  enough evidence to remove Liberia from either list. If this travel restrictions doesn't happen its always good to try. She's only coming for two weeks to attend cousin graduation.

Her chances are slim unfortunately, Liberia has one of the highest B visa refusal rates (https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/Non-Immigrant-Statistics/RefusalRates/FY24.pdf).

But all she can do is try. Good luck.
