My parents travelled to US 0n 30th January, 2025 on Immigrant Visa (IR5) and were admitted with a stamp at SFO Airport.

The Green Card fee was paid before their arrival to US.  Till to date their green cards are not received.  The tracking says it will be processed

within 90 days from the date of receiopt of fee or from the date of their arrival to US whichever is later. It is now almost more than six weeks.

Is there any way that it can be expedited as they need to go to India for some important marriage and return back.  Any suggstions as how to go about it. Tks

They have an I551 stamp on their passports.

The stamp in their passport is their temporary GC. They can travel and on their return it will allow them to enter just like the plastic card would.

Yes I have seen that i551 permits one year stay in US as per the notation on the visa stamped on the passport. My point is  will the Airlines permit them to board the flight  on their return journey without a return visa?

The endorsed immigrant visa is a green card until the plastic one arrives.  It allows re-entry just as a plastic one would.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

What does the tracking say? As said above, the endorsed visa does everything the plastic GC does, they don’t need the physical card.

You're asking a good question. Legally, yes, they have I-551 stamps in passports which is the same as physical green card. Some airlines, may not be familiar and indeed deny boarding. This happens to some travellers on expired 2 year GC and valid extension letters. It's worth printing airline carrier guide and taking on trip, to be able to explain to airline if boarding is refused. They need to arrive to airport early too in case if verification takes more time.
