Hello.

Me and my Fiancé filed for the K1 Fiance Visa, I-129F petition on February 9th, while I was visiting him in the US. We also had our engagement party with his family during this trip. It was absolutely amazing and I was so happy. I went back home to Denmark on the 10th, and have been here since. He then received the NOA1 (by regular mail) on February 25th.
I am gonna admit, that I am an anxious mess. Having had a few nightmares already about "things going wrong".

He is working blue collar, and has been staying in an rbnb for work far away, this month. Yesterday he went home to check mail, and saw he had received "certified mail". He does not know who its from. But will deal with it when he comes home from work today.
Now my mind is already creating a million disaster scenarios. We dont even know if its from USCIS, but I guess I am just looking for a peace of mind while waiting haha.

Do USCIS usually send any mail certified between NOA1 and NOA2? We have not received any RFE yet, could it be that or is that sent with regular mail?

Having your life and future be in the hands of someone else, is making me kind of crazy tbh. Its like my mind is constantly thinking "What if this, that, this, that" but with negativity.

Ask him to sign up for Informed Delivery, then he can see what’s coming and from where/whom. It definitely helps in this process!

And honestly don’t worry. The vast majority of cases have visas issued smoothly, there’s no reason to think you’ll be any different.

Best of luck to you.

don't think ive personally ever received something certified mail from USCIS (as the petitioner). for example, we filed for my husbands adjustment of status (the next step after the K1) and our first package was rejected, and that was sent through normal mail. same goes for everything we've received after we sent in a new package.

if you have your case number from the NOA1, starts with the letters WAC, you can see your case status here https://egov.uscis.gov/

if you've gotten an RFE it should show it there

I second having your fiance sign up for informed delivery through USPS (which is completely free). it makes it a little more bearable.

don't let your mind race too much. this is a very long process and unfortunately it requires a lot of patience.

try to keep yourself busy and your mind on other things, thats the best you can do to keep yourself sane

Thank you.

I entered my case number through the link you provided, and it only mentions that they got the case on February 11th, and that they mailed my fiancé the NOA1 receipt. It says "Please follow the instructions in the notice". However there is no instructions?
The NOA1 only says "We have received your form and are currently processing the above case for the following beneficiaries. If we determine you must submit biometrics, we will mail you a biometrics appointment with the time and place at your appointment"

And thats all. It mentions nothing of any other letters, or RFE

So my mind is definitely more at ease. You are right, that this requires a lot of patience. I am really trying. Thank you for replies

yea the part about instructions is definitely just copy and paste wording.

so theres a good chance whatever certified mail your fiance got isn't from USCIS

I don't recall anyone getting an RFE via certified mail.  Try not to play the "what if" game.  It can be exhausting and harmful to your mental health.  The immigration process is already stressful enough.  Good luck on your journey.

Definitely get your partner to sign up for Informed Delivery - it will help them see what is going to be delivered to them. Also I know it is easier said than done but try not to worry too much or do some activities/hobbies to take your mind off things. This process is stressful but there is a great community on this site who are happy to help you as well.

I have had a hard time finding scandis for that purpose during my time here, but a couple are popping up now, so that is very nice! ^_^

The only certified mail we got from USCIS was originals of my birth certificate, returned because all they needed was the copy. Scared the pants off me too.  Getting it returned to us, I found out, was just a courtesy that rarely happens.

My only advice to you, OP, is to exercise patience.  This is a long journey you've embarked on, with many periods that are far more opaque than this one.  Stay with us, keep atop of tracking by checking timelines and updating your own.  And don't allow mysteries to eat you alive.  If a piece of certified mail arrives, someone needs to open it and remove all speculation.  Speculation leads to worry, which festers anxiety.  Don't do that to yourself.

Sending love and peace of mind!

If I were wagering I would bet most likely not from USCIS but you never know until you make a trip to the post office.

Personally, I always lose a night's sleep fearing the IRS if I receive notice of signature required certified mail.  Though, one time I received notice of signature required certified mail and spent the whole weekend fretting over what it might be only to show up at the post office first thing Monday morning to find an overseas airline for some inexplicable reason sent me a promotional frequent flyer membership card by international certified mail.

Hello everyone.

I have read every single reply, thank you so much.
I just got off the phone with my fiancé, and he has signed up for Informed Delivery now. I do feel a lot better having so many of you take time to reply.

It is a stressful time. Not only with the K1 visa, but also everything that I expect is to come. Saying goodbye to my own country, family. I have to eventually sell my house here too. The embassy interview being in another country than my own for whatever reason. The medical exam. It is just so many things, my head and my thoughts are a mess. I feel completely overwhelmed, which causes me to worry.
I am scared to do something wrong. But I assume I am not the only overwhelmed person going through this haha.

You most certainly are not!  :)

Violent physical exercise is remarkably helpful.

For some perspective, see my thread on the topic:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/410945-k-1-journey-completed/

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We've all been there. And afterwards I bet the majority of us were like "What did I even stress so much about? This wasn't nearly as difficult as I had imagined.".

I almost had to travel to another country for my interview, going from Skåne to Sweden... 😆
And just four days before my interview they emailed me from the embassy and asked if I could do my interview three days earlier than expected since they were going to be closed on the day of my original appointment. So I had to buy new train tickets (and the first ones were obviously non-refundable) and book a different night at the hotel. It worked out in the end, but any change is stressful, especially when it comes to the interview itself.
