‘Bourne’ flick is ultimately un-American

By Bill O’Reilly

When “The Simpsons Movie” turns out to be more realistic than “The Bourne Ultimatum,” you know something is up. Nevertheless, the thriller is a big hit, proving once again that film audiences now want live-action cartoons rather than crisp, realistic films like “The Ipcress File” or “The French Connection.”

For those of you not familiar with the Bourne series, Matt Damon plays a CIA agent who becomes involved in the “Program” (as in “get with the”). This sinister plan results in Damon being brainwashed, making him a lean, mean killing machine with no personal memories. Thus, he can murder without conscience, kind of like what Hollywood producers often do to scripts.

Anyway, Damon runs around beating up four guys at a time and eluding authorities all over the world. However, he turns on the CIA, so they must kill him. But they can’t since Damon is Clint Eastwood and Sean Connery times 10. Plus, he has Julia Stiles helping him. No way the CIA has a chance.

I knew this movie was trouble when I read the reviews. Almost all the critics liked it. The only way American movie critics would like a violent car-chase film like this was if it bashed the USA, which, of course, it does.

The CIA guys are bad, bad, bad. And just to make sure Indonesian and Pakistani audiences get the picture, the CIA chief issues his evil orders with the American flag clearly seen on his desk. No language barrier here, no sir. The U.S. intelligence agencies are fiendish enterprises that want to hurt Damon and actually force Stiles to cut her own hair. How could they?

Actually, neither Damon nor Stiles has to do much acting. Damon does work for the far-left MoveOn organization and is on record as requesting that the Bush daughters serve in Iraq. The actor also told the Idaho Statesman that the CIA’s use of water boarding is an erosion of our American values.

Guess what? There’s a water-boarding scene in the flick. What a coincidence!

Stiles is also down with the far left. On a cable program she explained why she missed a MoveOn event by saying: “I was afraid that Bill O’Reilly would come with a shotgun at my front door and shoot me for being unpatriotic.”

Look it up if you don’t believe me.

In the Bourne movie there are no shotguns to frighten Stiles, but plenty of automatic weapons fired at U.S. intelligence agents, not by al-Qaeda but by American Damon. As the casualty count rose, I kept thinking about all those disability payments we taxpayers would have to pick up.

Now, all of this is harmless nonsense to those of us who understand the hero and villain business, and realize the simplistic bias that permeates Hollywood. But to impressionable audiences, the anti-American theme could resonate.

I enjoyed the "Bourne" series of movies. I never thought once about it being un-American at all. It's Hollywood. It's not reality...at least, what we know of it ;)

Besides, Bourne was going after people who created a maverick part of the CIA that was kept a secret.

I loved this movie and I loved the previous two. Best movie I have seen in ages. There is no hero or villain in the movie, that is what, in my opinion, makes it cool.

I don't care about CIA bashing, America bashing, Al Queda bashing, etc. When I'm there to see a movie, I'm there to be emersed in a fantasy land for a couple hours. Someone writing a review or opinion piece, acting like it is some sort of documentary that is anti-america, just has too much time on their hands. IT'S HOLLYWOOD. For as long as I can remember, hollywood has been making movies that are controversial in some peoples eyes. I don't see the controversy in a decent action film.

next please!

ps-not to mention bill o'rieilly's opinion of a good movie is probably one that involves good ole uncle sam showing us the way!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Doesn’t anyone wonder why it is this guy is always late to the party?

This is the 3rd Jason Bourne movie – with the first being released in 2002. Sorry but I can’t see how he can single this one out for criticism but ignore the other two – which lets face it, are more or less the same.

I’m also surprised to hear the Ipcress File being described as a “crisp, realistic movie” – I guess it must be the science fiction brain-washing scenes that made it so realistic. I wonder if his recollection of The Man From Uncle and In Like Flint are the same as mine…

Its things like this that should have people rolling their eyes at commentators like this - clearly he doesn't have anything to witter on about so he latches onto a popular movie. I guess he had more important things to discuss in 2002 and 2004.

It also demonstrates the mindset of so many of his faithful viewers and what they deem as 'un-American'.

Its just phoney arguments. On the one hand - he loathes political correctness; but on the other, he appears to loathe things being non-PC, if the 'non-PC' part isn't in his favour.

:P I've noticed that with the those who go around tossing that term about like a race card.
