At what point in the process (USCIS, NVC, interview, greencard received) do you receive your A# number?

I am currently at NVC stage completing form DS-260 online and it is asking if I was issued an Alien registration number (after it asked if I have ever been in the US). On my USCIS I-130 Approval Notice there is a 9 digit number starting with 'A' on the top right corner next to beneficiary. Is this my A# number? I have never received a visa before, nor lived or worked in the US. Any help would be appreciated! Really don't want to mess this up.

So did you answer yes and put that A# for this question in the DS-260 form?

If you have been to the US before then you would answer yes and put your A# in the appropriate spot.

I have visited the US on a tourist visa lots of times. But I have never lived there or applied for any visa's before. The way the question is asked confuses me and makes me think they mean the A# number is related to past US travel/stays and not this current VISA application. Should I still fill in my A# number?

Maybe another member on here that has been through this can answer... Sorry we filled out a DS-160 for Jacel's visa. But to me the question is the question regardless of the circumstances. You were issued an A# by DHS, so to me I would answer accurately and list the number. When the embassy pulls that number, all they will see is an approved I-130 associated with it and will validate your other listed visits to the USprior to this petition by other means. Just my humble opinion :)

Alright, thank you for your answer!! That does make sense. It is probably better to provide my A# number even if not needed than to not provide it and get an RFE or have to correct anything at a later point :)

Exactly the right attitude to have during the entire immigration process... do everything in your power to minimize the ability of the decision makers to deny or delay your progress :)
