Need Help with Next Steps After Receiving IR2 Visas for My Kids

Hi everyone,

I always get great help from this forum, and I really appreciate it! Now, I need guidance on the next steps, so if you have any knowledge or personal experience, please share.

Here’s my situation:

I finally got IR2 immigrant visas for all three of my kids, valid until mid-August. However, I work as a makeup artist, and I already have clients booked until next year. Also, wrapping up everything and moving to the USA permanently in such a short time is difficult. It’s not a good time to sell property in Canada, as I’d likely lose around $100,000 if I sold now.

A bit of background about me: I was born in the USA, lived there until age 7, then moved to Pakistan until age 25. After getting married, I moved to Canada, where I’ve been living since. I don’t have close ties in the USA currently.

My kids are all under 13 years old. While I can’t move permanently right now, I want to secure their U.S. citizenship or passports so we can move more easily within the next 1-2 years.

Here’s my initial plan:

  • Enter the USA with my kids for 2-3 weeks.
  • Use a friend’s address as a temporary mailing address.
  • Apply for their U.S. passports while there and then return to Canada.

My questions:

  • Does this approach make sense?
  • Are there any potential issues with this plan?
  • Is there a better way to ensure they get their U.S. passports or citizenship status?
  • Has anyone been through a similar situation who could share their experience?

I’d really appreciate any insights, especially on how to best navigate this process!

Thank you!

Your plan will work. As soon as they enter with their visas they will be USC. Get the ball rolling with passports and the N600.
