Return of Original documents

 Hi everyone,

 

     When are my original documents supposed to be returned? My case is at the embassy now but I never received my documents back.

I'm confused.  You would take original documents plus photocopies of them to the interview.  Normally, they are handed back to you and they just keep the photocopies. If you only had the originals with you, don't expect them back.

I'm sorry, I meant the documents submitted to USCIS with the I-130

They usually only request copies, did you send the originals?

From the I-130 instructions:

 

Copies. You should submit legible photocopies of requested documents unless the Instructions specifically instruct you to submit an original document. USCIS may request an original document at any time during our process. If we request an original document from you, we will return it to you after USCIS determines it no longer needs the original.

 

NOTE: If you submit original documents when they are not required or requested, USCIS may destroy them after we receive them.

 

TL;DR: They typically will only return original documents that were specifically requested.
