I went to a bridal shower yesterday...

that was obviously more expensive that my wedding It was at this posh country club and it was tiffany's inspired. There were almost 100 people there and we had food that I have had at most peoples weddings. When did it get to be this over the top? The gifts took almost 1.5hrs for her to open. She got TWO sets of china, stuff like "every day wine glasses" VS "fancy wine glasses" ????

When I used to go to bridal showers with my mum when I was a kid, they were at peoples houses, they served cute little finger foods, cake and tea. I was there yesterday for FIVE hours! I was so tired after it that I didn't feel like doing anything else!!!

A lady told me that it's a "North Jersey" thing and that every one in "South Jersey" does showers at their homes (which I can understand because my new family has EVERY occasion at some type of hall...communion/baptism/etc.) but still..I was really...kinda...shocked?

Any ways, have you guys ever been to bridal or even baby showers like this?

My cousin's bridal shower was like that, but a lot lower key. It was at a restaurant where we had salads and soft drinks, and then my cousin opened gifts for hours and hours. My other cousin's bridal shower was a classic tea party. I didn't get one for reasons that led to a small falling out with my maid of honor, but we're okay with it now.

Well I wasn't home to have one. My legal marriage was May 29th and my formal wedding is Sept. 14th. So I'm not pissed at my maid of honour or anything but if I had been home I would have been a little mad.

However, even if I was going to have one, I would expect it would just be at one of my friend's houses, and just having a nice time with the ladies of the family and my friends. I can't see my friends spending $6-7,000 on my bridal shower (without gifts included in that)

That was like my wedding shower...except there were 120 ladies there and it took me almost 2 hours to open all of the gifts. It was like a mini wedding.

When one of my high school friends from New Orleans got married, her bridal shower was at Commander's Palace there (a famous restaurant). It was about 3 hours long, had over 60 people present and each of the bridesmaids pitched in roughly $100 to help pay for it.

Over the top if you ask me, but I'm "frugal." I'd rather spend my money on plane tickets and immigration fees Since my non-legal wedding is in Germany, I doubt I'll have a wedding shower, and no one here in the states will throw one for me, I'm sure.

OT: my SO is here right now and he is playing a digeridoo. God I love that man.

G & A- The girl who it was for is marrying my husband's cousin. (my husband is much younger compared to his cousins because my father in law is 12 years younger than the next oldest brother. ie. my father in law is 55 and his two brother's are 67 and 69) The soon to be bride is a GREAT girl who I think is pretty wonderful so she totally deserved it. I think I was just shocked at the extravegance of it. I knew it was going to be nice but not near as nice as it was. There were more flowers there than I have seen at most peoples weddings!

She's also having 14, yes FOURTEEN, bridesmaids which 1. is way too many and 2. two of them are the sister's of the guy that is getting married. The two sister's are almost 40 years old and other people in the family are talking about how they are too old to really be included as bridesmaids.

500! WOW! My mummy had 350 because her dad, typical italian, had to invite everyone he knew. She said she didn't even know 70% of the people there. Furthermore, her and my dad had to incur a lot of the expense and ended up going into debt. She said it was more than what she bargained for so sort of warned me away from it.

Ours is Sept. 14th and just 100 people. Anything more we couldn't afford and I don't want to make my parents pay much more than they already are.

OMG 1 MONTH! Wow...i envy you...i wish i could be wedding free in one month. Hahahah I totally agree withyou! Wedding are the biggest waste of $. Unlike your mom, I will prob only know 1% of the people there hahahah I wish i could have a 100 person wedding...

I dont think you are suppose to use china...i think its just for show. i dont know...correct me if i am wrong. my mom has never used hers either
