My request got processed yesterday, thank you @top_secret!

One fun fact: replacing new GE card due to change of citizenship has $25 fee! Charged to one of my credit cards since I get it reimbursed.

Yep, they charge for the new cards.

Awesome if cc reimburses for the card fee; good idea. My mind only though of actual application fee with regards to reimbursement.

I didn't see the wording saying they won't cover it, so I gave it a try. Have multiple cards covering GE fees, so this one I never charged any renewal fees to.

Will post here whether I get reimbursement. Transaction coded properly, just like a normal application for GE. If I have to cover $25 out of my pocket, it won't be end of the world.

They went through LAX trouble free today so it officially works.

Global Entry had a new (to me) facial recognition system at LAX TBIT today whereby they completely eliminated the kiosks altogether.  They are gone. Now there are just two lanes with a screen next to them and people walk up and get flashed, green screen "GO" or red screen see the officer.  It was practically instantaneous and barely even required anyone to break their stride walking out of the airport.  You literally just walk straight through and out the door. If it wasn’t for some people people stopping because they were obviously confused about the meaning of the green "GO" screen, I’m sure is could handle a person every few seconds non stop.

For the cards I figured, although citizenship is written on it, the main function of the card it just the RFID which is scanned if you use it crossing a land border.  It should link to whatever is in their server and that is what the CBP Officer sees on his screen.  If they required any further proof of citizenship or ID they would need to see a passport card or book, not the Global Entry Card.  So we didn't bother updating the cards.  But haven't tested that theory either.😁

I just think of trying using Global Entry card as an ID for purchases in stores etc as it doesn't have my home address on it 😃 Maybe as an additional proof of US citizenship if I need it.

And yes, actually one time, when travelling on expired GC and extension letter, kiosk told me to see a human. And he asked me whether I had a GE card to prove I have GE. Because I didn't have it on me, he asked for passport and GC.

The last several posts raise questions.  Yes, a GE card substitutes for a passport at U.S. POE.  But do other countries recognize and accept it just as readily as our CBP does?  If yes, does this mean that a USC could carry a GE card abroad instead of carrying a passport?  What about countries that stamp foreigners' passports on entry or entry/exit?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I think the Global Entry Card is just proof someone has Global Entry.  It is not really stand alone PROOF of any citizenship.  Under most circumstances Global Entry allows someone enter without showing any documents but it's not guaranteed and they definitely are going want to see a real passport book or card if there is any question.

Once some corrupt Tijuana police was hassling us and when he saw my wife's Global Entry card he asked "SENTRI ?".  We said yea SENTRI and for some reason he instantly got all polite, handed it back and left.  I have no idea why that made a difference but it somehow impressed a corrupt TJ cop one time.

Good question! I traveled to some places in the world where they were requiring to show ID to make a purchase or verify age.

They happily took DL, but I wasn't so happy about people taking copies of it, because I did not fully trust data protection laws.

Next time I'll try GE card instead and post my experience. I know in the US there's a small group of advocates for using it as form of ID to ensure your personal info such as home address doesn't get known by a cashier guy selling you a bottle of beer.

Yes, passport book is required 100%. And most other country authorities will ask for passport book. I'm thinking of scenario of going to a bar / club overseas and not carrying passport book out of fear of losing or damaging it.

I would trust Europe with that data than US.

It is a valid "REAL ID" without address in circumstances where that may be relevant.

Europe is big and diverse.

UK vs Russia

Denmark vs Moldova

Germany vs Belarus

Spoiler alert, it wasn't in Europe where I doubted their privacy practices. Besides taking physical copies, many establishments wanted to take photos of DL on their phones and send somewhere over WhatsApp to get confirmation.

I'm not going to give away country name though, as I don't want to badmouth otherwise a good nation of welcoming people.

OK, I researched the subject more. It doesn't appear GE card proves citizenship other than in context of using GE lanes. It has "citizenship" field, but it cannot be used at SSA, DMV etc. Bummer. But I'll still try to use as a casual ID verification and write back my experience.

I thought GE can be used to get entry at any of the federal buildings. Oh well

Getting entry is not the same as proving citizenship.  In many cases, the only proof of citizenship are either a US Passport or a Naturalization Certificate.
