We have gotten an NOA1 and NOA2, plus a letter stating our case has been sent to NVC. But when we filed the i129 petition, we also added the one that would allow for email updates, since mail can obviously get delayed. Does this not work a lot of the time?

That form, G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, does only what the title of it says. It E-Notifies you of the Application Acceptance. You will not receive any other E-Notifications regarding your case after the one you get saying your petition was accepted. How long has it been since the case was sent to NVC?

Yep, it's a hit or miss.

I assume you never got any emails when case was accepted?

No, my fiance has never gotten anything electronically. 😕 At least it arrives in the mail, but I would like the case number as soon as I can, so I can schedule my medical and interview, since things might potentially take a lot more time from now on due to embassy changes.

It was approved on the 31st of january, and sent to state I think the 20th of february, so I know it is too early to start stressing, I just thought it was odd we have gotten nothing over email so far. 😅

Both times we actually found out through the trackmyvisa service since the letters obviously take a time to reach us. XD

So here is my advice that I give everyone regarding the NVC and K-1 visas. Once NVC sends your case to the embassy, they will send the K1-FTP letter by email to the email addresses they have on file from the I-129F petition. This will contain your case number. Sometimes, the email addresses get messed up on conversion from the I-129F to the NVC Case. This is what I would do if I was you...

1. In about 2 weeks, if you have not heard from the NVC, use the public inquiry form at the link below to request your case number. In the text of your inquiry, notify them that your I-129F was approved and sent to NVC and that you would like to get your case number so that you can start to prepare for your embassy process. Then add in the text of that inquiry that you would like to update both the petitioner and beneficiary's email addresses and and then list your email addresses. Make sure you attach a scan of your I-129F NOA2 to the inquiry. Now most likely this first request will get a reply that "they have received your case from USCIS but have not entered it into their system yet, but they have updated your email addresses as requested". That's OK! The real purpose of this first inquiry is to have them make sure that they have your correct email addresses. :)

2. Then you can follow up with them every 10-14 days after that to see if they have a case number assigned to you yet.

Word of warning - Most embassies will not let you schedule your interview until the case shows "Ready" in CEAC. And you do not want to schedule your medical farther out than a week or two before your interview because the validity date for the visa, once issued, is 6 months from the date of the medical, not from the date of the visa issuance.

P.S. - This is what Jaycel and I did and as a result we were well prepared for the embassy phase. :)

@Edward and Jaycel "1. In about 2 weeks, if you have not heard from the NVC, use the public inquiry form at the link below to request your case number."  Where is the link listed? I happen to need to do the same as I never received any emails from them and I worry with my name they may have spelled my email wrong.

Thank you for your continued help :)
