Good morning VJ family 😊

Please I need clarification on what occurred after we filled for removal of conditions.  We received a letter of 48 months extension.

At first, I thought it is the new thing about them to buy time before they can send the PR for 10 years but a lawyer said we were sent the letter cos we don't have a child together or probably cos I didn't change my last name to my husband's. 🙄

Changing one's last name doesn't indicate true love to me, talking from past experience plus do they understand that some women have difficulty getting pregnant even when they want to? Plus my last birth was 17 years ago. Yes I am open to the option of having a set of twins for my husband, medically I can't cos I had IUD in for donkey of years and when I took it out almost 4 years ago, my period hasn't returned. I have been prescribed medication twice for 10 days but it still hasn't returned. So only God can come through.

Are there people in the house who got 48 months as well?

Thanks everyone.

Overall, I highly recommend asking for copies of all documents this lawyer submitted. Then run away!!! E.g. remove lawyer from case by filing G-28.

I agree.  Run from this "attorney".

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Everyone is getting a 48 month extension letter now when the I751 is filed.  USCIS progressed from 12 months back in 2016 (when my wife filed), to 24, and then 48 months.  Whatever that "lawyer" stated is simply false, USCIS does not judge an I751 package when received and then decide to send out an extension letter to fit the case.

Good Luck!

So do they eventually send out the 10 years green card during the 48 months or everyone files for citizenship when it's time?

I just gave my husband the feedback 🤣 He said maybe he is clueless about the recent update after telling my husband that he has seen such occurrence before.

But lawyer, USCIS doesn't disclose if you are denied or extended bases on not changing your last name or not having a  baby together 🙄

I wish I could like this post 100 times.... Get the copies of everything they sent on your behalf, remove them from the case as @OldUser recommended and find a reputable lawyer that does nothing other than Immigration Law and specifically family based immigration law. The fact that your lawyer doesn't know that USCIS issues the 48 month extension letter for EVERY I-751 filer and then tries to make up some garbage about children born to the marriage and name changes, rather than do a 30 second Google search, is frankly one of the most blatant signs of legal incompetence I've seen since starting my research for the immigration process 2 years ago. When you find a new, reputable lawyer, have them check over all the submission copies you get from the old one to be sure they didn't screw it up

You and your husband may or may not be called for an interview for the I751.  The beneficiary can apply for citizenship (N400) while the I751 is in process once they meet the requirements for filing the N400.

I received 10 year GC 20.5 months after filing. Some people wait longer nowadays. Others file for citizenship at 3 year anniversary of being LPR and living with their spouse in marital union.

Not an issue for the OP as they did not use a lawyer, it was only an inquiry.

I know right 🤣

I have come this far with no lawyer after I filed K1 and we got RFE. We panicked and went to a lawyer. He requested for $16,000. $8,000 each for my husband and step child. But lawyer, you didn't start the process! Why such high amount 🙄 I fastened my seat belt and did my research. We are doing fine without any legal representation.
