Hello.. I am hoping someone can help me with my Q regarding police clearance. Although I am an Aussie, I lived in Dubai for over 3 years, so as part of form DS-230, I will need to present a police clearance certificate at my interview from the UAE.

Luckily I obtained this before I left....

My question is this: The criteria for police clearance in the DS-230 instructions states that any police clearance must "cover the entire period of the applicants residence in that area"..

A UAE police clearance cerficiate shows the date the certificate was produced (which coincidentally was the same day I canceled my UAE visa and exited the country), followed by a statement that I have no convictions as at the date of issuance of the certificate.

HOWEVER it goes on to state "This certificate is valid for 3 months only". The only way to clarify that I left the UAE on the same date that the certificate was issued would be to check my cancelation stamp inside my visa. Which of course is in ARABIC.

I know that none of the inside pages of the passport are requested, but should I get my UAE visa page translated for the purpose of proving I have not lived back in the UAE since my police clearance certificate was produced?

Sorry for the long drawn out question... but if anyone has had a similar expererince it would be great to know what you did!

Forget about that certificate, the consular officers are instructed by DoS to waive the requirement for police cert from UAE unless you are living in the UAE.

Police Records

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. When appearing to request a police certificate, the applicant should provide recent photographs, a letter from the requesting authority, the date of residence in the emirate, and their passport.

Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE.

Agreed.

Print off the link from the travel.state.gov website and take along with the you to the interview.

I had emailed the same question to the Consulate here in Montreal about working in Kuwait and a Police Clearance and they replied that it was not needed.

I printed off the email along with the screen print from the website that stated it was not required. I was asked at the interview but I told them that it was not needed.
