My fiance made it to USA from the Philippines. We got her SS card then we got married. She would like to change her name. I understand we would have to go back to the social security office. How does this work when her main ID is her Philippines passport with her old name? If she wants to fly somewhere, she has to book in her old name? We want to get a bank account setup, is it easier before or after the name change? Basically, we don't know how the name change works. 

 

Is there anything we will need to do differently on the AOS paperwork?

Your marriage certificate is a legal name change document.  That can be used for SS card change.  For Adjustment of Status paperwork, just start using her new, legal name.  Book airline tickets in the passport name.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

On the AOS form use the new name and underneath use maiden name. Request for a new SSN on both the 485 and 765 forms. My wife's new social security card was mailed automatically once the 765 was approved
