Do I need Affidavit of Support for K-1 Visa?

I want to share my experience and thoughts on the topic of the Affidavit of Support, especially regarding the financial requirements for the K-1 visa.

Currently, I work for DoorDash, and my previous job was at Amazon, which was actually my first job. I managed to save up about $20,000 before quitting Amazon, and now I'm focusing on saving more money while working with DoorDash. I make it a point to spend as little as possible each month.

While doing some research on the K-1 visa process, I came across information about the salary requirements for the visa. I also learned that independent contractors are not allowed to meet these financial requirements. However, I’m a bit confused about this “independent contractor” part. Additionally, I’m concerned because I don’t have a sufficient amount of money reflected on my tax return or in the IRC documents.

Given this, I'm wondering if I would need additional support or if there’s a way around this financial requirement, considering my situation.

Mind you with such limited income I would question the practicality of a K1

K-1 is not the best choice in your financial situation.  Are you aware that the beneficiary will not be able to work for up to one year?

You are an independent contractor, but if you do not make enough anyway you will need a joint sponsor. No there is no way around a financial requirement. Regardless of if you choose a fiancé or marriage based visa, there is financial requirements. You need to be aware that the fiancé would not be allowed to work for a long time on a K1 as they will need to adjust their status. You must also consider additional expenses such as health insurance and living expenses.

Agreed, plus the fees alone are several $$$$ higher for K-1

Your options are a) get a W-2 job with sufficient income or b) get a joint sponsor with sufficient income.
