Hello everyone,

I just read the instructions on the documents you need to bring to your K1 visa interview. It states you need to bring proof of your previous visas to the interview. In the past I had a J1 and F1 visa. However, I do not have the old passport anymore that contains the visas. When I renewed my passport a while ago, they took in my old one and did not let me keep it. What kind of evidence am I supposed to bring instead?

Would appreciate some help. Thanks :)

Moving forward, it's always good to make physical and digital copies of official documents including passports.

With J-1 you should have had DS-2019. I'd take that for sure.

If you can get I-94 for old passport(s) that also may be helpful.

Typically, passport with cancelled visa such saying "cancelled without prejudice" is a good evidence to reassure consular officer you did everthying right.

I have several photo copies of forms that I submitted/received regarding these visas as well as pictures of the visas in the old passport. I still have the original DS-2019 document. I hope that is enough, since the instructions say you should bring the passport containing the visas. I renewed my passport before the old one containing the visas officially expired, because at the time I wanted to travel it would not have been valid for 6 months anymore. Hence, I needed to renew it before the old one expired and that's why they kept the old one. At the time, I did not know I wanted to apply for a K1 visa

Also, the travel history for my current I-94 still shows the travel history back when I entered the US with the old passport that expired

Those photocopies are proof of your previous visas and should be taken with you to the K1 interview.
Make sure you have extra copies so you don't lose the only copy you have.

Save absolutely everything regarding your immigration process. You will need the J1 passport page copy and the copy of your DS-2019 in the future for your Adjustment of Status application.

Reading is what? Fun-da-men-tal!
