Ethiopian passport renewal questions are for the Ethiopian embassy, not USCIS.

Try calling or emailing

Based on what OP is saying, he downloaded app provided by embassy, but it's asking for proof of a valid status in the US, such as green card.

Yes, the OP has a TPS (Temporary Protected Status) with the USCIS, not a green card.

OP is applying for a family-based green card again.

Passport renewal is for the Ethiopian embassy to waive the green card requirement in lieu of the TPS.

I know I should be calling the Ethiopian embassy ..but called and sent inquiry found no answer...that is why I am asking Ethiopians living in USA if they were able to renew the passport without having a green card using the app INVEA

Hopefully, Ethiopians who have experienced this will assist you. You could also go to nearest Ethiopian mission or Embassy for a face-to-face. Why was GC application denied though?

I renewed my passport years ago, as Ethiopian immigration required me to provide a green card. However, you don't need to renew your passport if you have a pending asylum case. For better information, you may need to call Ethiopian lawyers who work in the US.
