Can anyone enlighten me on if it’s going to be a problem that I left the US a few days after mailing I-131 prior to receiving receipt notice. I got the receipt notice from USCIS contact centre after noticing that the payment was processed. My biometrics are being reused from a previous case but I wanted to know if leaving prior to getting the mailed receipt notice is going to be an issue? I don’t see anything on the instructions or FAQ on USCIS stating that I need to be in the US until I receive a receipt notice only at the time of filing the form which I was present for.

I also requested for the re-entry permit to be sent to a US embassy. Can I still travel to the US while having the re-entry permit?

For context I’m a Canadian citizen with a green card (family based category). My green card never arrived in the mail and I’m still waiting for I-90 to be completed the processing time has now increased to 17 months. I got an ADIT stamp in June 2024 since my admission stamp was going to expire in Aug 2024 & I-90 processing times are pretty long but I have been sent to secondary every time since getting this stamp to verify my status. I need to be in between US/Canada for some personal matters so I applied for the re-entry permit as I’m starting to be questioned about my time outside of the US although it’s never been more than 6 months away.

Please drop any insights. Thank you.

Please fill in your timeline so we know date of initial entry  and visa category.. as well as details about your times out of the US since then .. When and how long for each time.. as well as why you are needing to be back in Canada so much after just arriving on your visa. All this info is very pertinent and we really can’t give good replies without knowing more. Thx

I’d prefer not to get into my personal matters online … a lot can happen over a few years while waiting for visa approval

my question was about whether my re-entry permit would be approved or not based on the fact that I filed & mailed I-131 while in the US but left prior to receiving the receipt notice & biometrics do not need to be redone. If someone has any information about this it will help me understand if I need to go through the process of applying again or not.

Depends. What is the date on the notice? Despite mailing it before you left, if you left before it went through the system, then yes,  it is usually a big problem. Some Vjers have reported denial of the application and another denial on entry as the CBP officer can see  these dates.
