Really depends on each individual case. My K3 took 4 months. Had I done just a CR-1, I would be looking at about 12 months in total. Maybe more.

beckypua, a K3 can get an SSN after EAD (fees now included in the AOS fees). One doesn't have to wait for a GC.

Very true !! But it can take 3 months or LONGER to get EAD.

More money lost for not be able to work if you want to. No driving, Going to school in some cases.

4 months is not close to normal to get a K3. You may have a record!

That's just more expert testimony indicating K3 is extremely viable for many people. There's plenty of equally expert testimony that it is a waste of time and money for others, or worse.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. It's a case by case thing and always has been. The rules have changed though so where K3 was good before may be very bad today.

Here are a couple extremes for you.

Canadian Spouse with very marketable skills making a good income, bringing three kids. The family needs too incomes and the couple can freely visit often.

Chinese Spouse with poor English ability or marketable skills, with no pressing need to work. Foreign spouse cannot possibly visit the US during the process and it costs thousands for the USC to visit.

Timeline differences between K and immigrant visas are significant from both countries but the Canadian couple is far more likely to opt for waiting for the immigrant visa.

Yup, it just depends on your particular case whether it's worth it timewise and financially for someone or not. For us, it was more important for us to be together than for me to get an immigrant visa and the ability to work upon entry.

Everyone needs to evaluate their particular circumstances and see what's the best for their situation. In our case, it was the K3.
