Have any of you guys had lasik eye surgery? I had it done about 2 weeks ago and I can't believe that I can see this well without glasses or contacts.

My eyes were absolutely terrible and the doctor told me that my eyesight was 20/800 (I didn't even know that was possible). I figured I'd be blind by the time I was 30.

Anyways I would definitely reccomend it for anyone who is thinking about it. It is painless and the results are instantaneous. It's truly amazing.

My father who is 76 is talking about getting it done. I don't think his eyes are that bad. But I'm not the one looking through them. I'm 20/20. So it's hard to understand

That's great Sarah! You can finally see. That's what I want to get done. I had a friend get it done in Sonora Mexico for about (I think) $1000. That was a couple of years ago and he still sees perfectly well. I was tempted to do it while I was down there, but I opted for a ticket to Egypt. (Go figure!)

My eyesight is really bad too. I don't know my vision exactly, but I can't see squat without glasses or contacts. Congratulations to you.

How was your recovery period? Painful, uncomfortable, anything?

I went home after the surgery with a vicodin and valium running through me and slept for 6 hours. I woke up, opened my eyes and could see perfectly. I had no pain during or after the process and just had to use lots of eye drops within the first week of the surgery. I was extremely nearsighted and had a bad astigmatism.

I don't know much about the practices in Mexico but I have heard some horror stories about having it done down there. It is pricey here and my insurance didn't cover a penny but it was so worth it for me. Most doctors here offer financing.

I was the same without glasses or contacts, couldn't see a thing. I wouldn't even know that this computer is in front of me!

Yikes!

That is so great Sarah! I would love to have Lasik since I too am nearly blind. I's so tired of glasses and contact lenses, but at the moment can't afford the surgery. Hearing stories like yours makes me wish this was covered buy health insurance. But hopefully some day I wil be able to afford it!

Awesome Sarah! I'm wanting it done too, but I'm wondering if they can give me enough valium. Did you lose sight for a second or two while they were doing it? I've heard from a few friends that happened to them and I can see myself freaking out.

I can barely walk to the bathroom at night without my glasses. I can't imagine what it would be like to wake up in the morning and be able to see across the room.

I've never had glasses or contacts. If I ever needed them I would look into laser surgery. I have no desire to ever put contacts in my eyes- that just seems so weird to me. And I hate the feeling of glasses- so I rarely wear sunglasses.

I have never met anyone who has regretted getting the laser eye surgery.

Soo wish they can perfect Lasik for farsightedness... My contacts are a +4.75 and a +5.25 but can stand to be corrected to +5.50 & +5.75 but my eyes reject it with lenses but that is what the test say.. all I know is take out my lenses.. and even the BIG E on the test is a blurr..

My sister just recently got her eyes done down in San Diego.. she said her contact were like a +3ish.. with astigmatism .. now she sees perfect..

Silly lady my sister is.. called me and said wow. you should get it done.. hahaha..

I said.. ohh if they can with my vision.. sure.. all the literature I read says can work on vision for a +4 and below.. so I guess Im SOL.. and even if they could do it on my eyes..

for her it cost $4K her insurance paid only $500.. I told her there is no way I could ever afford that.. .. which her response was.. comeon.. im sure you can afford payments of $200 a month.. that is nothing... // at that moment I hung up the phone...

go figure.. no clue... all the money I make goes to raising my daughter.. and if i had a free $4k floating.. I sure as heII won't be sitting here with my baby so far away in India..

Maybe when I'm 80 yrs old.. they can fix it enough so .. i can at least see 1/2 as well as i do now. hahah.

Congrats on it working so well for you ..

Well all I can tell you is that every time I go to the eye doctor he tells me some horror story about someone who came to him to correct his lasik he had done in Mexico. Be careful! It may be cheaper but I sure wouldn't risk my vision!

Haha I didn't feel any pain. I had never had valium before and about 2 minutes after I took it I felt completely drunk and got all talkitive!

There is kind of a weird moment when they "pop" the lense and push on your eye and everything just go blank for a second and then is blury, although for me everything was already blury so I didn't really notice it. It was definitely a weird experience though. It only took about 3 minutes per eye.

It's so nice to wake up and be able to see the clock and not trip on something getting to the bathroom.

Yeah I didn't even know that there was a mirror or "E" on the wall when they asked me to read what was on the wall! I said well I know there is a big E there, but I can't see it for the life of me.

Hopefully you can have it done sometime!

I am scared too. In any country!

Sarah is right. Definitely do not make a quick decision when it comes to your vision! It is much more valuable than the money you could possibly save. Do some research. No. Do a lot of research! Find some people in Mexico and the states who have had it done and research their doctors. I am not very quick to trust the technology in other countries, but some of the doctors have the same education and experienced as the ones in America. I would check into any doctor's technology, track record, and credentials.

Good luck Kit.

As a reference, my friend was Mexican, so maybe he had less reservations than I did about going through with the surgery in Mexico. But, thank God he didn't have any complications and he was very happy with the results.

I am happy that it worked for you. I spent the first 4 months of this year with 2 eye surgerys.. It was not lasik. My left eye was 20/2600

Yes Legally blind in that eye.

well glad it worked for you :D

I had it done about 6 months ago and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I was scared too but it was nothing. I am actually going for my 6 month check up on Thursday to see if I'm still 20/20 in both eyes. Javier's eyes have just recently gotten bad so he's going to have it done also. He's terrible at putting eye drops in his eyes so would never be able to wear contacts. He does construction so I think it would be too hard on him if he had glasses. They would constantly be getting scratched and stuff. He can't wait to have the surgery done. I would recommend it to anyone. Oh, my dad had it done about 3 or 4 years ago. His eyes are still in great shape. He's had no problems at all.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!
