My green card started on October 8, 2020, and I can submit my citizenship application on July 8, 2025. As of July 8, I have already lived in United Stated for 30 months. However, because I traveled a lot in 2014, I did not meet the requirement of living in United stated for 6 months in the last year by July 8. That is, as of July 8, I have only lived  for 4 months. I believe that by the day of the interview, I will have lived in enough for 6 months. So my question is, can I still submit my application on July 8? Or do I have to wait until September 8?

Thank you so much

I am sorry , it is 2024

Did you have any single trip in 2024 longer than 6 months?

Are you filing taxes as resident for all years you were a LPR including upcoming taxes for 2024?

I don’t have any single trip longer than 6 months ; and I did file taxes each year.

Then you don't have a problem filing when you become eligible. Don't file on first day of early filing window. Wait a few days.

However, you had other questions related to filing which may affect time you can file.

Please give full picture. The way you frame questions right now provides limited scope. Responders won't know the full context unless they research other threads you opened.

Good luck!

Dear friends

I have lived in the same house with my U.S citizen spouse for 4 years as well,( 2 years boyfriend + 2 years husband),

so we just married 2 years. And My green card is 4 years too.

I saw this USCIS considers an applicant to “live in marital union” with his or her citizen spouse if the applicant and the citizen actually reside together.

so can I file my citizenship now ? Because although I didn’t married him for 3 years so far , but we did reside  together for 3 years.

thank you

Hello everyone, my situation is that I got my green card on October 8, 2020, and I plan to apply for citizenship on July 10, 2025. Between October 8, 2020 and June 2024, I lived in the United States almost all the time, so I have already far met the 30-month requirement during this period ; however, in the last year of the 5th year , after June 8, 2024, I lived in China for 5 consecutive months for one trip ; then I came back to the U.S  to stay two months from November, and now I want to go back to China again for another 5 month’s trip ; that is, I will in China for nearly 10 months during the last 12 month  , although each trip was less than 6 months, will I still be eligible for naturalization in July this year ?  Shortly , I meet “ 5 years green card + 30 month total in U.S + each trip is less than 6 month “ , but   “ the last 2 trips , total 10 month in China in the the last 12 month” might be  a problem

Thank you so much.

really appreciate

Key word: marital... married and living together.

Dear friend,

I received my green card on October 8, 2020. As of June 2024, I have lived in the U.S. for over 30 months within the first 4 years, However, in the last year of the 5-year period, I took two business trips, each lasting 5 months, totaling 10 months abroad within a single year. While I meet the 5-year green card requirement, the 30-month residency threshold, and each individual trip during the 5 years was less than 6 months, I am concerned because the combined duration of the last two trips exceeds 10 months in A YEAR. I’ve heard that there may be a rule about not exceeding 6 months abroad within a year, but I’m unsure.

Since I haven’t taken the second trip yet, I still have the opportunity to adjust my plans to avoid potential issues. Can I still apply for naturalization under these circumstances, or should I reconsider my travel plans to ensure compliance?

I meet the general residency requirement for naturalization.

5 years+30 months+ each trip less than 6 month

my problem is :

I took two trips with each one is 5 month  in the last 12 month.  ( still not take the second trip yet )

Thank you for your guidance!

Best regards,
