My wife’s Chinese police certificate keeps getting denied when submitted to the NVC for either missing a doc or being invalid.

When she moved away from China a few years ago, she received a certificate of no criminal record. It comes in a booklet with a cover page, Chinese page with a stamp and a translation page.

We’re not sure what we’re missing. This is the official translation. We went as far as having the front page translated as well, just in case that was an issue, and it was denied twice.

If anyone has successfully had their Chinese police certificate approved, please let me know what you submitted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this is the same certificate that she received a few years ago then it may be that she needs a newer version. Has she visited China at all since she received it?

Does it definitely comply with these requirements? https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/China.html

She moved away from China in 2022 and has never returned. Since she has never gone back, we assumed her police clearance is still valid based on the requirements.

We’re also wondering if we need another translator to certify the translation from the Chinese government is accurate. The police clearance is official, stamped and translated by the Beijing government.

You don't need translator just to certify translation done by somebody else.

Get them translate it and certify their own translation to avoid issues.

Police certificates expire. When did she get it?

I'd recommend getting a fresh one and getting it translated independently.

This is the path to success in my opinion

It was translated and certified by the Beijing notary office. That translation comes in a booklet with the original Chinese. Are you saying get a separate translation of the Chinese?

It won’t expire if you’re not returning to the country where it was issued. She received hers in summer ‘22. So it’s still valid. Hopefully a new one won’t be needed because getting a police clearance from China is a huge, expensive hassle. But I may look into that. Thanks.

That's true, technically valid, but not sure if you want to get it rejected again. DOS / USCIS are known to make mistakes. If adjudicator sees "2 years" in instructions, they may be reluctant to look into terms and conditions extending validity of certificate. Plus you have to somehow prove she haven't traveled to China in the last two years to make it obvious.

Sometimes taking a path of least resistance is the way forward.
