Colombian Leaders Embarrassed by President Petro After Backing Down from Trump Threats

 

Colombian political leaders are calling for the impeachment of President Gustavo Petro, citing his recent public feud with President Donald Trump as a source of national embarrassment.  Critics argue that Petro's short-lived "trade war" with Trump damaged Colombia's international reputation, particularly in its relations with the United States.  The controversy stemmed from Petro refusing deportation flights from the U.S., which resulted in Trump threatening the nation with harsh tariffs.  Petro then tried to turn the table on Trump and threaten him with a 50 percent tariff on U.S. goods.

Trump Reminds Colombian President He Wants Two Coats Of Wax On His Limousine

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following a brief dust-up and threats of a trade war over the weekend stemming from the U.S.'s new policy of rounding up and returning illegal aliens to their countries of origin, Donald Trump was overheard reminding Colombian President Gustavo Petro that he wanted two coats of wax on his limousine.


President Petro had reportedly offered to fly in early Monday morning and wash Trump's presidential limousine in an effort to smooth things over after initially standing in defiance of Trump's goal of repatriating Colombian nationals who had entered the U.S. illegally.


"Just remember, Gustavo, that's two coats of wax on the limo, okay?" Trump was heard shouting outside.  [...]

Talk loudly and swing a yuge stick:  Trump does Teddy Roosevelt one better

 

Judging from the first week or so, the Trump doctrine is going to be:  We can do it the easy way, or the hard way.


Those are the words the president used in a post on Truth Social last week threatening tariffs on Russia if it didn't cut a peace deal with Ukraine.


Trump is a president who understands, and has no hesitation in using, the leverage the United States has abroad as the world's pre-eminent economic and military power, and the leverage he has at home as a newly elected president with a mandate and the strong backing of a fervent political movement.

 

He's going to talk loudly and swing whatever stick he has at hand.
