My husband and I finally got our marriage certificate. We got married in Canada back in July. We finally got our marriage certificate and the officiant put the wrong date for the marriage. In addition, he put the wrong place of marriage on it too.

We have everything else lined up ready to go to submit our green card application, but the marriage certificate has the wrong marriage date. We have requested paperwork to amend the marriage certificate, but it will take 6-8 weeks just to receive the paperwork. Then another 10 weeks before they send a new one. What are our options in terms of submitting our green card application?

Should we file the green card application with an explanation on why the marriage certificate has the wrong date and that it is being fixed. Or should we wait until the marriage certificate is fixed before submitting our application?

If you know the date is wrong, why would you even consider submitting it? Get it fixed (as it's obviously their error, you should call them up and have them expedite the processing) and then send everything in.

No.  The date on that document has multiple ramifications.  I would wait until you can send them an accurate document.

For obvious reasons, getting in the I-485 ASAP is crucial.
‘File your forms with the correct date and location . Submit certificate and copy of formal paperwork requesting it be ammended/corrected along with any response from agency involved.

If it makes it past mailroom and you are assigned case numbers, you just patiently await an RFE . You will likely have the amended copy before they get to working on your case, so send in ( upload on USCIS account and mail to address on receipt notice ) a Cover Letter “Supplemental Filing to Case # xyz ( I-130 and I-485).
