Hello everyone, I hope this message finds you well. I am seeking guidance on the process of obtaining an L-2 visa upon my arrival in the United States. Here are the details of my situation:

  • Current Status: My wife holds an L-1B visa, and I am her spouse.
  • Citizenship: I hold a Canadian passport.
  • Travel Plans: I plan to enter the US arriving from EU(so not directly from Canada) to NYC airport

Questions:

  1. Documentation: What specific documents should I prepare to present at the border? I understand I need my marriage certificate and copies of my wife’s L-1B visa and I-94 form, but are there any additional documents that would be beneficial?
  2. Application Process: Can I confirm that as a Canadian citizen, I can apply for the L-2 visa directly at the border without needing to fill out Form DS-160 or obtain prior approval from USCIS?
  3. Entry Experience: For those who have gone through this process, what was your experience like at the port of entry? Were there any unexpected questions or issues? Does my wife need to arrive with me at the same time?

I appreciate any insights or experiences you can share regarding this process. Thank you in advance for your help!
