if the application is for employment, you are ok to state you have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree

But for education purposes, like if you need to be admitted to a university to pursue higher education, you will most likely require an equivalency of your degrees

I went through the same thing with my bachelor's degree from abroad (Morocco). I did the equivalency through WES

I got my bachelor‘s and master‘s degree in Germany. Do I need to get it approved that it is aquivalent to US standards to use it in applications? If so, how do I do this?

This can be pretty complicated. You may be able to get a job without the equivalency depending on what the field is. This is more difficult if the job requires specific licensure. My recommendation would be to look carefully at the requirements for your particular career in the state you plan on living in, paying close attention to what particular agencies require (ie Board of Engineers, Association of Widgets, etc) and see what is necessary to meet those requirements. Some agencies want you to have foreign degrees reviewed by specific organizations and you may also be required to take some courses to meet the equivalency. Good luck.

Depends on your degree and line of work. For example, if you are a Doctor, Pharmacist, Nurse or Health Care professional, you may need credential evaluation to obtain the necessary licenses to practice that profession in USA. So to apply for a license, you may need to prove that you have education in the relevant field. Credentialing agencies like World Education Services (WES) or Global Credential Evaluators (GCE) are two such agencies who will do the credential evaluation for a fee. But if you are looking for work in fields where license requirements are not there (example : IT, Engineering, etc.) employers may allow you to work without credential evaluation. They may accept your foreign degree.
