Hey all,

I think I know the answer to this question - but I'm also getting a lot of mixed answers so just want to clarify....

My girlfriend is a Au Pair (J1 Visa - without 212(e) req.), she recently extended her contract with the host family until the end of December 2025. We are planning to get married sometime mid this year to start the change of statue process and to get her AP.

Question: If we get married mid this year and change her statue & apply for AP - will it effect her ability to work with the host family until she finishes up her contract? She does not plan to extend the contract after her current contract finishes in December.

When does the change of status take effect? Anything we should know/do before we start this process?

Thank you for all the answers!

i assume you are looking to adjust status.

Best to start the process asap
