"Write a brief description of the purpose of your payment. In this example, it is “N-400 application.” Include the applicant’s name on the memo line if it is not on the check itself (for example, if you are paying the fee for your child)."

Good catch.  That proves that the applicant does not have to make the payment.

That doesn't make any sense.  I have written checks to USCIS which had only my name on them....no issues at all.  The last check I wrote to them was for wife's I-751..where she was the petitioner and also the beneficiary.  My checks have only my name on them.   I think is an error on USCIS....not you.  I think you talked to a Tier 1 rep on the USCIS "disinformation line".

My name was nowhere on the check. I don't know if I can fight them on this, it's probably better to resubmit.

Too late to fight.  Just resubmit asap.  Good luck.

the forms got updated in december.

i think it was just a clerical error on USCIS' part

it doesnt make a ton of sense that USCIS would expect every person applying for a green card have a bank account and to be able to write a check in their name. then again, it is the government so 😂

thats probably why that bit about writing the applicants name on the memo line was included in those instructions.

I am almost done with the new packet :).

question I am doubting about, maybe someone can help:

On page 8, Part 4, Item 5 I am asked if i previously applied for permanent residence while in the US.
Now, I know rejected packets are seen as "never arrived at USCIS", so I'd expect to answer "no".

Would that be the correct response?

If this is not the appropriate place for this post, please redirect me. The form I-485 for my wife is currently being processed. She was given a request for evidence (RFE). She has to respond with form I-693. The medical examination for this form takes 3 to 4 weeks to process, which is something I didn't know originally. So if the exam was completed on January 21, and the clinic has not responded yet, what are the best ways to respond if the RFE must be responded to by February 20?

This sounds weird. My medical exam results were ready shortly after appointment. Pressure the civil surgeon (if they're real)

I did checks also but my wife (beneficiary) name was no where on the checks. I also signed the checks too. She doesn't have a bank account currently either. Though IDK if it had anything to do with it but the sections where it stated who filled out the forms I did say I did them for her and I did make sure the address on the checks were the same as my mailing address.

Should be fine though I've seen online some people who used CC's to pay their fees sometimes their CC company fraud protections flagged the payment as suspicious I guess due to it being such a large amount. Though I believe USCIS will try 2 times before rejecting the cases. Perhaps you can call your CC company to let them know you have a large amount going tto be charged by USCIS?

USCIS will try to deposit a check a 2nd time if it is returned for insufficient funds the first time. If a credit card fails, USCIS will NOT retry it and will reject the submission

I think we actually used a debitcard, since that was also an option. My husband will likely get a call, but we’ll see. We got the funds on there, so it should be all good
