Hello everyone, sorry for any confusion. So on the AOS I-485 (Part 9, item 57) I put "4" household size, me, my wife, Father-in-law and Sister-in-law. For my sponsor's (Wife) I-864 (Part 5, item 7) it says " If you have siblings, parents, or adult children with the same principal residence who are combining their income with yours by submitting I-864A, I put 3 household size as there is no option to add my Sister-in-law, she have no income and a dependent to my father-in-law, so my father-in-law is the only one counted. Me and my wife is concerned that the household numbers don't match. My wife is in school and don't have an income so my FIL will be filling I-864A as he is part of the household and will be combining his income to support me but the form doesn't have option to list his dependents/household members. I really appreciate any help and please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you so much!

In my understanding my father-in-law should fill out both the forms I-864 and I-864A, is that correct?

No.
Petitioner/Sponsor  completes I-864 . HOUSEHOLD size 2 ( wife and you)
This is your wife ( currently NOT earning …so it’s no use “combining “ hers with FIL.

Joint Sponsor completes I-864 . HOUSEHOLD size 3 ( FIL, his other child aka your SIL and you)

‘Its ok they all live under one roof , each files taxes separately

I'm sorry I'm really confused because on the form it says my father in law (joint sponsor) should fill out I-864A because he is part of the household. As my wife is dependent on my father in law's taxes.

That little detail is important 😂…in that case FIL has 2 dependents on his taxes now ( your wife and her sister) so no matter how you slice it their current household is 3 plus 1 (you) and has to add up to 4.

So item 7 will be 2 and total 4

You can add clarification on last page of I-864 and I-864A

As a heads up, they get confused themselves very often and RFE. You just stand ready to do both scenarios . .

FIL does I-864 A
