EB-2 NIW for a medical doctor with corporate healthcare experience

Hi,

I am a Malaysian citizen and a medical doctor by training and qualification, with several years of experience in the corporate healthcare sector (multinational pharma/medical device industry) as a market access and government/public affairs personnel. While I do not intend to practice medicine in the United States, I am keen on securing employment opportunities in the healthcare industry there. I am currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In my role, I focus on delivering innovative medicines and devices to patients through technical engagements with stakeholders, advocacy work and policy shaping. This benefits both the industry and patients.

Recently, in 2022, I earned a Master’s in Public Health from Yale University under a Yale scholarship. Additionally, I hold a Master’s in Health Economics from Spain and a Master’s in Business Administration from Malaysia.

I am interested in pursuing the EB-2 NIW pathway to obtain a visa and subsequently secure employment in the United States. I would appreciate your comments on my chances of success through this route.

Thank you.

This is a question for a lawyer that has lots of experience in EB immigrant visas, who can explore further and see if you meet enough of the criteria to qualify. I used Fragomen for mine, can highly recommend them.

Good luck.

as others said, get a good lawyer. no one can tell you what your odds as every case is adjudicating on its own merits. patents, publications, scholar recommendations all help. Having a doctorate or a degree merely is not qualification for NIW

Why not just go the regular EB2 route?

Thanks... I've reached out to Fragomen a while ago. Let's see.

Yes, as someone suggested, I've got in touch with Fragomen. I'll see what they have to say.

In that case, I would need an employment offer, which I currently do not have. There are plenty of opportunities in the United States, but the issue is that they often require someone to start immediately. Even if a company is willing to sponsor my visa, the process will take time. Am I mistaken?

Most people applying under EB2 are already working in the US on a work visa which is much quicker. As a very general rule, I’d say if you’ve got enough specialist skills to qualify for EB2 NIW, you’d have the skills that mean a company would be prepared to sponsor you (and save you $20k in the process!).
