Work Visa for Remote Work

Hi, Canadian Citizen and student here. I am studying online at Arizona State University doing my masters and they offer lots of job opportunities and post lots of job options for students; including jobs that are remote. However, these jobs need a work authorization for the US and I was wondering how I would go about getting one of these in order to work remotely in Canada for a USA workplace? I did just try to go through the USCIS, however it requires a US address to start the application - a bit confused here too. 

 

any leads and information would be great!

Doesnt work this way sorry. There is no work visa that applies to your situation

What if I wanted to do a remote internship that wasn’t paid? would I be able to do it then?

Exactly, a foreigner only needs work authorization if physically in the US, whether working for US employer in person or any employer remotely while living in the US.

If you’re a Canadian working remotely in Canada then you don’t need a US employment based visa. You can work for them no problem.

Like the others said, you don't need a visa if you're not in the US. On the flip side, if you were to come to the US you do need a visa (usually J-1) even for unpaid internships, or any kind of activity that people usually get paid for.

is your employer ok with you working from canada ?
