Hello.

Can anyone tell me what documents would suffice as residency proofs? Must you have legal residency (police station, city hall) or would joint banks, bills, etc be enough?

Thank you!

You could establish residency through bills, apartment lease, drivers/non drivers id and of course bank account.

You should contact the US consulate there in Algeria and ask what proof of residency they need. I know in most countries, consulates require an offical residency permit issued by whatever country you are currently living in, so like an Algerian residency permit. You will have to contact the embassy directly to know for sure. I know Frankfurt would not accept anything else but a valid German residency permit (for non-military).
