I had gotten an email from my lawyer showing showing that my case was received and I have the receipt number. It says in the notification that they would mail me something that says how they will process my application and to follow the instructions when it comes. It has been about two weeks and I haven't received anything in the mail yet. Is this normal although I already have a receipt number?

Yes - You will be getting an I-797 - Notice of Action Receipt Notice (This is known as a NOA1 - When you get Approved you will get another I-797 - Notice of Action Approval Notice. This is known as a NOA2) Keep these notices in a safe place as you will need them later in the process.  It is perfectly normal for this notice that comes in the mail to be very slow in coming. I have seen delays of 4-6 weeks in some cases. Nothing to worry about. If you have your receipt number that means the petition was received and is processing. Lots of waiting ahead for this process. If you want, you can check the status of your application by creating an account on my.uscis.gov and adding the receipt number to your account. Then you can log in and check if there's any status changes. Be prepared to see nothing other than "Case Was Received and a Receipt Notice Sent" as the status for a while.

One other thing.... The "K-1 Visa" wasn't received. Your petition (I-129F) to USCIS to apply for a K-1 Visa for your fiancee was received by USCIS. I know it sounds like I'm splitting hairs here but in the immigration process, accuracy (especially with the terminology) is super important. Wish a speedy approval for you guys!
