Hi everyone! Thank you to this group, it has been helpful. We just received our NOA2 and I'm an international student here in Canada.

1. While waiting for the case number (I'll do a public inquiry after 14 days from receiving NOA2) what documents should I prepare?

2. In our I-129F form, I put the US consulate in Toronto as the nearest. Is the interview going to be here in Canada too or in my home country, Philippines?

3. should I try and get a police clearance here in canada since i am staying here for more than a year now?

4. should i keep the original copy of the NOA2 Letter, have my fiance mail it to me? Do they need this for the interview just in case?

Thanks again!

Be prepared for more of a 40-50 day wait just for your case to get sent to the Department of State. These stages are extremely delayed.

Research your embassy and what documents it asks for, I would say be aware of preparing these if you want them to be dated closer to the interview I'd hold off because the interview is still several months away.

If you live or work in Canada, it can be Montreal *only Canadian embassy that does k1* but you can change it to Philippines if you want. Be aware this forum has several threads about Montreal Embassy being widely known for significant periods of administrative processing and delays. (Search ds-5535)

3. Yes any country you've lived in longer than 6 months. So Philippines and Canada if you've lived in both for over 6 months.

4. As long as you have some form of it you'll be fine - original or photocopy. I'd recommend scanning it so you don't lose or misplace it.

Yes, make a digital copy of NOA2 and keep it.

I'd say keep all original I-797 letters for all cases including future cases (I-129F, I-485, I-751, N-400).

Make digital copies of them too and store in the cloud.

In the end, your fiance will have about 20-40 pages of important papers from USCIS documenting their immigration journey. Government may always ask to re-prove / re-verify how they became a citizen, even many years later. Either for them or descendants. Along with house deed and their birth certificate, these are super valuable docs.

Hi! Thank you so much. Will do. :) does he need to re-verify anything since he is already a natural born American even her bother is American by birth too.

Whoever is the immigrant should keep their immigration documents including USCIS letters. I-129F NOAs are some of them. The only disadvantage of keeping records is space. But I'd gladly toss some other stuff like excess clothes or other clutter to make space for docs that literally proof right to remain in the US.
