I am wondering if I am able to take a leave of absence while in the US on an L1 visa.

I am married to a US citizen and we are going through the green card process. We just found out we are pregnant, but the green card process will not be complete by the due date. We want to make sure I will be able to take a leave of absence while on an L1 visa. What needs to be done to document the absence if I am allowed to take it.

Appreciate your help!

What do you mean by leave of absence, will you still be an employee, paid by them.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

L1s are allowed leave

I will still be an employee of the company, but I will be on maternity leave.

If you have AOS in progress through marriage to a US citizen the L1 is more or less moot, if you have approved EAD and AP as part of AOS you are authorized to work and travel even if the L1 were to go away right now. But as the others have said, it won't for a standard leave that's authorized by the company.
