My husband and I have just submitted our I-130 to start our IR1-CR1 process and I am travelling back and forth from Canada every weekend. They told me to make sure I have proof of a residence in Canada and should have no problem. I have been carrying a copy of my bi-weekly pay statement and my monthly utility bill. I am thinking of moving in with a friend until I get my visa and can move down to Washington permanently so won't have a utility bill. What has anyone else used while crossing the border during their visa process? I have a Nexus card so have not had any trouble but I know one day I will get a "jerk" who will give me trouble.

Thanks

I think a letter from your employer always helps - as does a lease/ownership thingy.

Where in WA?????? We are moving to Seattle in October!!!!

Peace, L.

I cross every weekend as well and I always carry my most recent pay stub and the one before, my income tax assessment, any bills I have (visa, cell phone) and I also carry a copy of all of the I-130 paperwork to prove that we have sent it in and done it. I also have my car ownership and insurance on me too since I drive over. I have nexus too so that helps. Whenever the border guard asks I give a whole speech about the paperwork already being filed and they just tell me to have a nice day. Hope that helps :)

If you are moving in with a friend, consider getting rent receipts from your friend to bring with you as well since you won't have a lease (most likely).
