Hello All,

I filed my taxes this past year (2023) by mail because I have a LDR Spouse, married filing separately. My return was rejected because I signed on the wrong line. I sent it back but it will not be processed by the time her interview is at the beginning of 2025. My question is either I submit the return and last two years of tax transcripts with W2 and current paystubs proof of employment or reschedule the interview and wait for IRS to finish my return transcript. The Wage and Income transcript is available for 2023 but not the Tax return. I’m not sure if that can be helpful to show I do file my taxes. It is a headache because my spouse does not have a SSN or ITIN.
 Thanks for any feedback.

Take option one with a copy of your most recent return along with W2’s/1099’s and transcripts for the previous two filings.  Have your spouse also take a copy of the wage and income transcript to the interview.  Worst case scenario is the consulate issues an RFE for the return transcript, but IMO that is better than trying to reschedule a consulate interview.

Good Luck!
