We received an RFE response letter. It stated that they have received an English translated copy of an original birth certificate. Now they need the original birth certificate. I sent the original birth certificate through the online portal.

The RFE also said that if you send original you need to send translated aswell. But it was stated that they already received the translated certificate.

I only sent the original birth certificate. Are we screwed in the that response? If so, is there any way to correct this?

the only way to correct this is to send a new birth certificate following directions on the RFE of where to send

If u send by mail to office,  label the birth certificate with case number,  both names and both DOB"s or the system could lose it

By mail send with return receipt and signature required

Please fill out timeline on your portal

But did you send a translation? Or did they just SAY you sent one?

You uploaded a COPY of the original BC. Originals (which are never required and only asked for SPECIFICALLY) could only be sent by mail. Ensure you understand the wording of your RFE.

RFEs should be complete and sent by mail to avoid such a situation.

Yes when we originally sent all the evidence we sent the translated birth certificate. In the RFE it specifically said they want an original long form birth certificate issued by the country's civil authority.

We will overnight mail the original along withe the translated and RFE letter

When a translated copy is submitted, you’re required to send a copy of the original version also. Based on your response, it seems like you did not include a copy of the original version with your initial submission. So you need to send in a legible clear copy of the original b/c (personally, I would include another copy of the translation).

Note, if you send in the “original” copy itself, USCIS will not return it to you. What they need is a copy of the original version.

Several countries have a long version (and a short version)  they want the long one

It helps to ID the embassy /country on here to get the best answers from those that have seen this in the past per country of birth

and your timeline will help others who follow u so please fill one out
