Hi folks. So I had my oath ceremony last week, and I still haven’t signed my certificate. I’m a bit confused because the little note that cane with the packet says:

must sign your certificate, in cursive, on the line indicated using your full and complete name, exactly as it appears on your photo and certificate”

and on the certificate itself says:

”Complete and true signature of holder “

However, I have undergone a name change which changed my First and Middle names. My signature on my photo not only reflects my old name, but it’s just a scribble of my initials and not at all a complete name. And one last thing, I intend to keep the scribbly style of my previous signature, changing only to my new initials, for all future documents.

Please help! 😭 thank you!

I am going to assume you had your name change done legally as part of your naturalization as my wife did, so your naturalization certificate has it spelled out correctly just a little ways below where you need to sign.  That's what you need to write.

My wife's picture signature is not the same as her new name that was changed.  Not to worry.

You also got the petition of name change from the court that reflects your new name.

I would sign it with your legal signature.

Mine has been the same for quite a while, so it matched the vertical one on my CON, and on passport, DL, etc. My dad never signed his in 20 years.

Which one would be my legal one ? My old signature has different initials than my current one 😭

Okay. Does it have to be spelled out completely? I’m planning to just keep doing initials going forward

I would use what you plan to use going forward.
