“Looking into a match that lives in Abu Dhabi”?

So in our community a matchmaker sent us a prospects profile. My mom showed me her profile. I liked it, we have a very similar background and come from the same ethnicity and are of the same age range. Im interested in moving to the talking stage to see if they are interested. But before I do that, I want to see if the UAE timelines are feasible. What is so strange about that?

You haven't even talked and are querying visa processes?

What if the process takes longer than you'd prefer? Would you still be interested or move your view to a country with a shorter time frame?

USCIS aren't concerned with outdated and abusive customs. It takes as long as it takes.

So your basis for potentially moving forward with this person is the timeline of the K1 for that particular embassy? Would you pick another person if their embassy was quicker? Or am I misunderstanding?

Based on your recent failed relationship with your ex-fiancée in Pakistan, and abandoned I-129-F and K-1 process, I strongly suggest that you meet this new "match" first in person, with a chaperone if that is what your religion requires.  Get to know her for a few weeks if possible, face to face.  Discuss a possible future together, your hopes and dreams, likes and dislikes, etc.  Then go back and think things over.  Continue conversation long-distance, then go back for another visit.  If you both agree, then start the K-1 visa process by filing another I-129F.  You know the process already and how long it could take (1-2 years).  You will need to include information about the previous I-129F on a new petition, and this new case, if you choose to file it, will receive greater scrutiny.  I hope things work out for you and that you can find happiness in marriage in the years to come.

I agree 100%. I really want to make a careful decision and really vett the person before going through the k1 process. This is my mentality as well. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

it’s a matter of how long both sides want to wait. If we decide to speak to them, one of the first questions will be how long is it going to take. I’d rather be 100% transparent and give them truthful information about the timeline so we can make an informed decision to see if that is acceptable to both parties or not and avoid wasting time.

if I have said anything wrong I apologize. My only intention is to get proper information and make a decision based on that.

You make it sound very transactional...

Bear in mind, each case is unique. Two people can file cases on same day at same place. It may take 6 months for one case and 18 months for another case. Plus timelines change all the time, especially since we now have new administration coming. You cannot predict how long the case will take. It's like predicting stock prices.

I wish we could use historical timelines but I stress to you that the timelines cannot be trusted. This year has been so very different from one month to another. The beginning of the year there was a big backlog. Then they hired a bunch of temporary staff to help with the backlog, but what happened was new cases submitted were approved in record time. They have since let go all of the temps and processing times are slowing way down. They do not process in order as well. As OldUser above noted, some that were submitted at the same time are quicker then others. Another important note is the new administration can change how things are currently done. USCIS is not funded by the government but by their fees but are told what to do by our government. They can be told to stand on their heads and they will do it while it makes all of us wait longer while they practice for the feat. If you want a real possible timeline, I would say it could be 1-3 years because of so much uncertainty.

Best wishes on your journey 💜

Got it. To me that sounds like a business proposition and the ‘wrong way around’ but I understand there is a big gap between our cultures.

Basing your decision on a potential partner’s embassy timelines is risky because all you can look at is the averages and those include the very quick, medium and slow cases. There is no way to know how long it would actually take for your potential case.

I understand what you are saying. While I may not be familiar with "arranged" marriages" (not sure that this would considered one). It certainly does make sense for *both* of you to be aware of the timelines involved in the immigration process before you start to consider if you wanted to move forward.

Good luck going forward.
