Im happy to share that my visa IR1 was issued today. I still did not receive any email with the tracking number yet. Below is my timeline throughout this whole painful process:

Dec 17 2021: Filed I-130 application

Aug 7 2023: Interview in Montreal and was refused

Aug 11 2023: Submitted DS-5535 form

Oct 8 2024: Admin process was completed and requested passport, 2 photos and second medical.

Oct 29 2024: passport and photos received at the consulate office

Oct 31 2024: second medical received

Nov 18 2024: was advised to update the Ds 260 form. Done on the same day.

Jan 8 2024: Visa issued on ceac.

Thank you everyone! There is still light at the end of the tunnel!

Congratulations on your visa! Just wondering why they asked you to update your DS-260 after your AP was completed?

Zero cost for importing vehicles made for Canada and approx $25 for VIN check and new Title and $6 for plate + annual renewal fee

Thanks, for sharing the info.

what is process for applying SSN#? At the government website, it is mentioned that "If you requested an SSN card as part of your visa application, U.S. Department of State (DoS), the electronic Form DS 260,  and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will share with us the information needed to issue you an SSN card. Therefore, you do not need to fill out a special application or go to a Social Security office to get an SSN."

And we requested it in our DS 260 form, so does it mean after we give landing, it will be mailed to us without going to SSN office? Did your parents got their SSN like this? However, my US adress is changed compared to what I mentioned in DS 260 form, so if I give during my landing the new address would they change it at the boarder so I get SSN card at my new address? I gave my new address to the doctor office while doing my second medical and they said they will send the consulate new address. SO may be address change is already done, but consulate never asked me to open the DS 260 form and change the address.

Today we picked up my husband's passport with IR1 visa inside. We did not receive tracking until today. This morning we saw on the AIS site and via donotreply@usvisa-info.com that the documents were "ready for pickup."

Sharing our full timeline with updates for reference:

Married: June 2021

Filed I-130: May 25, 2022

Case approved by USCIS: June 7, 2023

DQ: August 15, 2023

Interview & DS-5535 requested: Jan 18, 2024

DS-5535 sent: Jan 19, 2024

Unsolicited updates: Jan 26, Jan 31, Feb 5, Feb 7, Feb 21, March 6, March 7, April 8, August 13

Medical, passport, & photo request: Sept 6, 2024

Medical delivered: Sept 18, 2024

*delay on our side to renew passport and submit L1 visa application*

Passport & photos sent: October 29, 2024

Passport and photos delivered (courier tracking): October 30, 2024

Passport and photos officially received: November 20, 2024

Unsolicited update: November 26, 2024

CEAC status changed to “issued”: December 27, 2024

Picked up visa after learning that morning it was ready: January 9, 2025

Sharing these details from the visa itself in case they are interesting:

- "clearance received 30 July 2024" (we only received word September 6, 2024 that AP was cleared)

- issue date listed as 8 January 2025 (vs December 27 2024 on CEAC)

- expiry date is 11 March 2025 (6 months after the most recent medical, as expected)

Also to note: my Senator's office reached out to the consulate yesterday (8 January) to ask when the visa would be ready. I didn't think it related to the timing of receiving the visa in hand, though seeing the IV issue date as yesterday makes me wonder a little...

Anyway, it seems they are working on moving these visas along! Hoping there are more issued and received in the coming days.

You will be automatically issued your SSN upon activation of your visa.  It should arrive about 2 weeks after you activate and cross the border.  If you don't receive it, head into a SSA office and they can check in the system as to whether or not a number has been assigned.  You may require an appointment for your local SSA.

When you arrive at the border, the CBP will confirm your address.  If it hasn't shown up as updated to the new one, they will input the address then so your greencard goes to the correct place, especially if you've already paid the fee and the address listed was your old address.  If not and you're paying the fee now, put your new address into the system.

I'm happy to see so many of these cases are FINALLY being cleared.  Definitely needed before the next administration takes office!

One more question, if I give landing by road to nearest boarder, then can I come back to Canada on the same day. Actually, my home is on sale, and my plan is to move permanently as soon as home is sold. But I want to give landing and activate my green card visa as soon as I get my passport back.

Does anyone have the same experience. Is landing by road (boarder officer) any difficult compared to by air?
