Renewing my parents 10yr Green card.

Hi, I have a question regarding my parents' green cards, which expire in about 1.5 years (10-year green cards).

The main reason I haven’t applied for citizenship for them is that they spend 8–9 months out of the country due to my dad’s business overseas.

1. Do I need to file for renewal one year before the cards expire?
2. Which form should I use?

Any information is appreciated.

I-90 is the form used, and you should send it in within 6 months from the expiration date.

Do they realize that spending so much time out of the country puts their LPR status at risk?

Right? I got grilled by CBP the last 2 times because I had 2 trips to the NL that were 4 months, one this year and one last year. And others manage to live outside of the US for most of the time for decades!

I know it is risky

they will need to show IRS tax returns for the renewal 

File 2555 for the foreign income

A green card is for LIVING in the U.S., not visiting.
