Hi everyone,

I recently filed for my mom's green card online (I-130) and sent out the I-485 via mail to the Chicago lockbox (can we also note how insane it is that we have to file by mail in 2024?). This was on November 17th, 2024. The form I filed online is all good; they have received it, and I have the receipt notice for that one. However, the one I filed via mail is a different story; the check has yet to be cashed, and any notice has yet to be sent out. I emailed the lockbox, and there was no answer. I know the package was received on November 18th. Mind you, this is the second time filing this form via mail because the first time around, I messed up the amount on the check, so they returned everything back to me within 2 months. Now I'm scared that I messed up something again because it's taking so long to get the check cashed. Has anyone had similar experiences? Also, I called USCIS, and they told me there's nothing they can do; I have to email the lockbox, which I've done twice. Soooooo frustrating!! I'm doing this process by myself so any help from anyone is much appreciated!!! Happy holidays!!

The delay is not because you did sonething wrong, it's because it takes them 8-10 weeks to open packet and look at it. Last time it didn't take USCIS 2 months to study your packet. It sat for weeks in their facilty, then somebody opened it, and within few hours replied with rejection and it took a week to get returned by mail.
