Hi Everyone, we married recently and I had a couple of questions .  I recently enrolled my husband to my health insurance and the good thing is we don't need a SSN but I wanted to ask if the government will make us pay a fee if he does not have a social and he has insurance or how does that work ? Also , we also need to file the i 485 and was wondering if there are any vaccine records we have to submit as when he went for his medical exam in Morocco the doctor did not administer all the vaccines since it would be too much with the covid shot he had taken. Are the vaccines done after his approval or how would that work. Currently we are a little frustrated that the wait time for this application is 15-18 months. Does anyone have experience with how long it takes for processsing this ?

If you get insurance through employment or paying yourself, I don't see how government is involved. Did you get some insurance through government program? Are you sure your alien spouse was eligible for it?

Because his vaccines were not completed in Morocco, he'll need to complete them in the US. He must complete medical exam (form I-693) and submit it with form I-485. If he doesn't do it - his case will be rejected, fees not returned. It's a new change.

So he needs to find a civil surgeon and bring all paperwork about vaccinations he has.

Here's official website to search civil surgeons:

https://www.uscis.gov/tools/find-a-civil-surgeon

He will be given any missing vaccines with medical exam for a fee depending on coverage his medical insurance provides. Do not leave civil surgeon without completing all missing vaccinations, it will cost more and cause I-693 rejection.

Sorry to hear you're frustrated, but be prepared for 18+ months. There's new administration coming, and because of this USCIS may be shifting focus to other areas.

Make sure to pay for I-131 so he'll have ability to travel overseas without abandoning Adjustment of Status. For example, his mother gets sick back home etc.

Make sure to pay for I-765, so he will get work permit. This will not only allow him to work legally while waiting for green card, but also open bank accounts, build credit history, get driver's licence etc.

Good luck!

as of December 2, 2024, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires applicants for adjustment of status (AOS) to submit Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, along with their Form I-485. This is a change from previous requirements, which allowed applicants to file their green card applications without Form I-693

So u will need the medical papers along with  AOS petition.

U should have applied for SS  # with arrival but he came 10/23 and if u are fast and lucky ,  u may be able to get to SS office and apply for 1.  otherwise,  make the box for USCIS to do the SS work

Thank you !! The civil surgeon in Morocco told him that she wouldn’t be able to complete all the vaccines due to him taking the covid vaccines around the same time. My question is is there a time frame to submit the AOS

Thank You !! We have had such troubles with our local SSN office and were thinking of going elsewhere but because of the time it takes decided to have uscis do it for us. I am curious Don’t we have to wait a while to receive the physical copy of the SSN card ?

Yes, the sooner the better. Right after marriage is a good idea. Ideally before the legal status expires. Otherwise spouse will be out of status and subject to deportation.

He completed his medical exam in Morocco un August 2024 and passed everything . The packet they gave him is not with him as immigration took his paperwork… I dont think he would need to do it twice to be able to submit with AOS

But he needs all vaccinations completed to adjust status. The medical is not completed without all vaccinations.

Hence I-693 is needed.

Without I-693 with all vaccines, his I-485 will get rejected.

Yes I know that and we can get the missing ones but since there is a new rule that came out 12/2 how would we submit the evidence of his medical exam if the immigration officer took his medical pcket at the port of entry. What do we need to do ? I hope We dont have to retake the whole thing. I was hoping for just the missing vacciness but now we need to know how to obtain those records.

The change happened this December

He needs new medical

https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/uscis-now-requires-report-of-immigration-medical-examination-and-vaccination-record-to-be-submitted

Release Date
12/02/2024

We now require certain applicants filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to submit Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, with their Form I-485 or the Form I-485 may otherwise be rejected.

DO ASAP as he will be out of status till the receipt for AOS is received.

understand the K1 is no longer valid as it does not cover him after POE
