Love Words In Arabic !!!

this thread is great - i just tried out my accent and read them to Brahim - and he got them almost instantly! the way i know how to pronounce 'i love you' sounds more like: oh hegbook. between us we know four different languages, but speak french to each other. i'm brushing up on my arabic and sometimes interject silly asides when my husband is speaking to his friends (please forgive my phoentic spelling): 'waaha' - yeah; 'schweeya' - a little bit; '(k)hobs' - bread; 'zeetoon' - olive; and 'oh hegbook' - i love you. they all think it's hysterical.

I learned these words the same as you did. I haven't grasped the different ways to say "i love you" yet...lol just Ohibok...

We met in October 2007 and our immigration journey started in July 2008 when we filed for the I-129F Fiance Visa petition.

I can't remember alot of them too. Sameh will tell me what to say to his mom on the phone but she just keeps asking me "how are you?" so I keep telling her "tamom" and "maashi" rofl.gif

hahaha. I am that was as well...although I'm trying. I've found that it's much easier for me to learn arabic words when they are written in arabic lettering. Don't ask me why... lol

What is another word for Uncle in darija? I keep forgetting it and my husband laughs because I keep saying Khok for uncle and khati for aunt...lol. At least I've got the genders right...lol

On the mother's side:

-Khali: uncle.

-Khalti: aunt.

On the father's side:

-Ammi: uncle.

-Ammiti: aunt.

I think that applies to most Arabic dialects as the pronunciation is very close to standard Arabic.

My mom and John just started talking on Skype and all their conversations make me smile big that I can't help laughing at times!

He speaks very little Arabic and she speaks very little English! Funny thing is both of them talk using both languages at the same time and neither of them uses ANY grammar AT ALL!! :rofl: They understand each other perfectly most of the time! :D
