We had the Starlight in Alton. Lots of fond memories of getting kicked out of there!!!

And then there was the one in Pontoon Beach. Showed X-rated movies. Lots of fogged up car windows there!!

Yep. I was at some of the last showings at the Highway 39 Drive-in before it closed, the land eventually becoming a Wal*Mart.

We went all the time as kids.

Our Drive In was only 15 mins from our house. Its still playing movie's. I loved going when I was growing up. Mom always got snacks and we went in our PJ's......lol. Couldnt wait to play on the swings before the movie started.

I mentioned to my husband that I wish there was one here.

C. tells a funny story (you have to imagine him smoking and a little drunk while telling this) of the complete lack of success of the drive-in that attempted to make money in his area. The story's pretty usual, like all drive-ins, until you realize as far north as Edmonton is, the sky doesn't darken in the summer till after 10pm.

Summer Drive in's are a tradition for me in the summer!! We have one back home close to the beach and it's set up like it's back in the 50's. They play Chili Willy cartoons in between shows and my favorite show of the season is on Labor Day weekend when they show a triple header.

Of course I have loads of "date" memories as well at the drive in  GREAT place to make out!

Drive In's wow.. definitely can remember...

I grew up in San Diego.. Chula Vista to be exact.. went to Marian HS in Imperial Beach... One of the guys from the Football team's father actually was the manager of the Drive Inn close to the school.. Does anyone know who Matthew Modine is .. ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Modine

Oh the memories of my sister Sarah (Puff) and Mat... the parties at the drive in with the gang.. ..

Then there was the horror nights...

Parked in the front row.. with my sisters valiant.. speakers upon the hood of the car.. blanket spread out.. drinking snowballs.. (peppermint schnaps & 7UP) .. watching Dawn of the Dead Chainsaw Killer Little girl down the Lane.. Amity Horror.. etc... what fun..

I lived in Imperial Beach for a short stint in my childhood. But never went to the drive-in there. Matthew Modine, I remember from Vision Quest. The best was when he got busted with that ladies undies

The Little Girl Who Lived Down The Lane...wow...Jodie Foster as a youngster in that one ;)

Haha - it's funny you mention this as, while I was reading this thread, I was thinking how as a child my parents would take us to the drive in and I don't remember it being much fun at all - I was always tired and it was something my parents wanted to see.

When you brought up the summer thing (as we live in Calgary) it now makes sense, maybe most little kids are excited about watching a grown up movie at 10 at night - guess I wasn't one of them :)

We don't have a drive-in in Calgary anymore (apparently there were several at one time), ours was called the 'Corral' woo hoo - and was closed in 1999 (when an oil refinery explosion contaminated the area) - but the screen is still standing.

Wow Joe.. what part of IB... haha.. I grew up from 69-79 right off Orange Ave..just by honda hill. and the canyon.. in CV..

I remember walking on 805 when it was still under construction hahaha.

Went back down to SD for my 25 class reunion.. a few yrs ago. augh.. found out that Marian HS will no longer be there .. moved locations out towards Otay Lakes and even changed the name.. so its like it is not longer around. in my books.. . .. scary thought and sight of how J st and east of there has grown up as a 4 lane road.. and houses packed in all the way to the Lake.. could not believe how IB has changed either.. .. but.. must say that the improvements to the IB pier are a nice change. back in my days.. IB pier was just the local hang out.. haha.

Small world.
