Hi,

For my I-485, we're submitting my joint sponsor's birth certificate as proof of their citizenship. The issue is the last-name on the certificate doesn't match their current one due to marriage, and I wanted to get some thoughts on if their marriage certificates were sufficient to demonstrate they're the same person?

They've been married twice and both times have taken their spouse's last name (even keeping it after their first divorce until second marriage) so I was thinking of providing:

- Their birth certificate (with birth name of course)

- Their first marriage certificate (showing their birth name marrying someone with the last name that they'll have on their second marriage certificate)

- Their second marriage certificate (showing them with their former spouses last name marrying someone with the last name that they have now)

Do you think I also need to provide any sort of actual name change documentation, or divorce decree from their first marriage, or would these two marriage certificates suffice?

Thanks

(P.S I know I'm probably over-thinking this, but this is in a response to an RFE as I didn't provide their proof of citizenship initially so I want to be absolutely certain)

Does your joint sponsor have a valid US passport with latest legal name? Maybe it would be easier to use copy of that to prove US citizenship.

They don't unfortunately which is why this is what I'm considering sending in (that'd definitely be so much more simple though haha), I understand it probably would look a little confusing to USCIS so maybe a simple letter explaining how they all connect too - just am not sure if they'd potentially want more than marriage certificates to verify
